Downsides to Being a Vampire

Sometime last year, I decided it would be fun to turn Rianmiel Rose, my Stamina Nightblade, into a vampire. Without giving it much more thought, I did just so. Back then, being a vampire didn't have that many downsides: your health regenerated 75% slower, your vampirism skills cost less, and you took more damage from flame. I was, and still am, a Dunmer with self-healing abilities, so none of the downsides mattered to me, really. I needed to pay a little more mind to casting spells, but other than that, I didn't notice a difference. Dark Elves enjoy a relatively high flame resistance, and self-healing abilities erased the effects of reduced health regeneration.

Now, after Greymoor dropped, though... well, let's just say that I cleared an enemy camp, and wondered where my stamina went. And that was on stage 1 of vampirism.

In order to advance vampire stage, you need to feed. It took me a while to figure this out; in the past, all you needed was to use vampire abilities. I drained enemy after enemy, remaining on stage one, cursed, and resorted to googling. Turns out, it takes just four kills to reach the highest vampire stage.

I started to explore changes to the vampiric system with Ethérna, a character I actually built into a vampire, and I'm quite happy about my choice. Her build works really well with the new skill line. Rianmiel's, though, doesn't.

Being a vampire comes with a price now. As a stage 4 vamp, your health recovery is reduced by 100%. This, I could deal with. Self-healing abilities are there for a reason. I could also deal with a boost to flame damage taken. I'm a Dunmer, after all.

What got me really bad is the tax on regular abilities. All of Rianmiel's stamina and magicka abilities now cost 12% more. That doesn't sound like much, but trust me, it is.

As much as I love the appearance of a stage 4 vamp, the cost is too high. I decided to cure Rianmiel.

To do this, you can go to the Crown Store, and pay 800 crowns. 1500 crowns costs 13€, so that's a bad deal given that you can purchase the cure for gold. All you need to do is find Prelate Sabinus in one of three cities depending on your faction. If you belong to the Ebonheart Pact, go to Riften. If you sided with the Daggerfall Covenant, head on over to Evermore. And if you chose the Aldmeri Dominion, travel to Rawl'Kha. Talk to Prelate Sabinus, pay 693 pieces of gold, and enjoy life as a mortal.

In case you'd like to hear (emphasis on the word hear!) more of my thoughts, check out a video I did on vampirism and how to cure it. It's my first one, but I promise to make more. At least, like, one more.

I do hope I didn't discourage you from being a vamp. It's great fun, you only need the right build! I'll share a nice one next time.
Until then.
Love,
Heather
