Playing video games can be frustrating. I live by the philosophy of "life is hard, why should your game be that". Therefore, I've chosen to use a few life-enhancing addons for Elder Scrolls Online. In this post, I'll share my favourite ones.
When using addons with ESO, I recommend installing Minion, which can be a bit finicky at times, but will save you from a lot of trouble. It comes with an extensive guide, and will manage all of your addons in one comprehensive interface. You can use it to search for addons, and to manage all of your preferred mods. I made a little video about Minion and the mods I like best. Check that out here.
First up in my favourites list, Destinations. This addon helps you find quest givers, delves, wayshrines, and those pesky, hidden achievement points that can prove to be a right pain to get to. Without this addon, your map to each area is blank when you first get to it. With the addon enabled, you'll be able to see all unfound locations. From the addon UI, you'll be able to choose which locations you'll see on your map. You can choose to see where M'aiq is hiding, or where you can turn into a vampire or a werewolf, or where towns and villages are located. I've found this addon a source of joy: without it, I never would have figured out what to do to get the Nose Diver achievement!
One of my favourites on the less intrusive scale of addons is Clock - Tamriel Standard Time. This little addon displays the current time in Tamriel in your main screen. I find this amusing rather than really helpful: as the day in ESO is only six hours long, it's nice to see how long darkness lasts. I do find a real use for it sometimes, though. When harvesting materials in the wild, it's easier to see them in the dark if you have all the skill perks enabled. Knowing when the sun rises helps you use your time efficiently. This also helps if you're looking for Bloodfiends or Werewolves that only spawn during the darkest hours of the night!
The addon I find most useful is Wykkyd Auto Repair. When adventuring in strange lands and battling monsters, your gear will eventually require repair. All merchants, part from guild traders, will repair your gear for a bit of in-game currency. Without the mod, you'll need to prompt a trader to fix your gear. I for one keep forgetting to do that. Wykkyd Auto Repair helps me keep my gear in mint condition.
One of the most useful addons, as I've found, is SkyShards. This addon places a map marker on the location of each skyshard in the game. Finding skyshards is one of the main goals of ESO: for each three you collect, one skill point is awarded. Skill points are then used to improve your character by unlocking abilities you wish to obtain. Completing quests and dungeons also gives you skill points, but especially on lower levels, skyshards are the easiest way to get more points.
Lastly, the addon that's saved me from a lot of swearing is No Accidental Stealing. In ESO, you can grab any item, be it free for the taking, or marked property. Sometimes, owned items are placed confusingly close to merchants or books, and accidents happen. If an NPC sees you stealing, which they often do is you just accidentally take something that's theirs, they will attack you. If that happens, you have two choices: stand still, and allow them to kill you, or fight back, and receive a bounty for murder. I don't enjoy either option, and No Accidental Stealing has saved me more than... well, after 3000+ hours spent, I've lost count.
Once again, I highly recommend using Minion to install and manage your mods, and to find even more user created tweaks to the game.
I hope this post has offered you, if not fresh news, at least entertainment.
Until next time.
Love,
Heather
