Well hello there. My name is sometimes Heather, and I play video games. Today, I wanted to tell you a bit more about myself.
After all, I do love talking about myself.
My full sometimes name is Heather Wielding. I write books, which you can, if you so choose, check out on Amazon. Heather isn't my real name, hence the "sometimes". When I first started writing, I saw it fit to pick out a professional name for myself. I'm Finnish, so my given name is a bit on the exotic side. I felt it would be challenging for English-speaking readers to pronounce, and so, I chose my name.
Heather has always been my absolute favourite female name. Claiming it for myself was a natural choice. When I started streaming, introducing myself as sometimes Heather just felt... at the risk of repeating myself, natural. The first time it actually slipped out, and since I kinda liked both the connotation and sound of it, I stuck with it.
Now that you know my name, let's talk about gaming.
I started playing video games pretty late in life. My first love was Oblivion, which I still enjoy, but I didn't really get into gaming until I moved in with my spouse, whom I will be referring to as Charming, about four years ago. In the beginning, whenever he needed to go somewhere, he'd park me in front of a huge-ass TV, launch a game for me, and say "go nuts, I'll be two hours." First time, it was Portal. Second time, Portal 2. And then I caught a glimpse of his Steam library and kinda-sorta whispered "can I play all of these", and I haven't seen the light of day since.
As with all things in life, I'm choosy. I know what I like, and refuse to spend time with things that don't offer me enjoyment. I'm like the Marie Kondo of video games: if it doesn't spark joy in me, it flies out the window.
Or Windows. Ha-ha.
My all-time favourite game is still Oblivion. I'm in the middle of a re-play after a long time, and though it does look a bit simple compared to many other, more modern games, the magic I felt the first time is still there. The world is pretty and soft and full of wonder, and the quests still prove entertaining. The same magic was, to both mine and Charming's surprise, found in Elder Scrolls Online. He actually got a copy for me after I'd gone through Bioshocks, Fallout 3, New Vegas, and 4, Portals, Talos Principle, and Skyrim (which I hated more than eggplant), and was bored with everything. ESO was on sale, and he fully expected me to look upon it down my royal nose, and refuse to have anything to do with it. Instead, I've put over 1900 hours into it, and still love it.
You've probably guessed by now the purpose of my little gamer girl -blog here. Yes, it's Elder Scrolls Online. I'll be sharing my builds here, maybe reviewing and offering insight from my perspective to the contents of the game, and generally just chatting about playing. I hope to start a YouTube channel, too, some day, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
I do hope you'll enjoy your stay here.
Love,
Heather
